One of my favorite things to do for soon-to-be new mamas is to make them a bunch of freezer meals for after the baby arrives, especially if they already have other young children. People often bring new mamas fresh meals right after the baby is born - which is wonderful - but it's in the hectic weeks right after that where I think it is so helpful for new moms to have some great food they don't have to make! Here's what I brought to a baby shower today: I put a giant pink bow on it to "gift" it up a bit - and made sure the new mama will have the freezer space for it first. I made 9 different meals including sausage raviolis, chicken Alfredo, pizza pasta, beef burritos, tomato Alfredo tortellini, chicken enchiladas, chicken tortellini, ziti (beef) pasta, and chicken & corn burritos. Mmmm! The best part is, everything is essentially already cooked, so these are pretty fool-proof for the new mama - she can just thaw them and bake them for about 30 minutes (or she can even put them in a different dish if she wants to microwave them to reheat them faster). I put the names/instructions on the foil, and then double wrap them in plastic wrap: Everything stays preserved until ready to thaw/cook/eat and everything is clearly labeled so the family can choose what they want for dinner! And the portions are generous just in case they are also feeding company (it's hard to turn away people who are there to see your new baby, right?) or so that they have leftovers to snack on the following day. All the meals I make are pretty simple too - that way I don't have to worry about picky eaters or food allergies, etc. Pasta freezes extremely well, so that's always my first go-to, but tortillas also hold up extremely well. So if you know a family who is about to add a new member, this is a great practical gift I'm sure they will be very grateful for - especially in the throes of parenthood during those first few weeks when everyone is exhausted. :)

AuthorI love writing romance novels, editing other people's novels, planning parties (heavy on the theme food!) and watching movies. Cooking has also become a passion of mine (because you can't have a proper party without food!) and I love finding new hobbies when I can squeeze them in. Archives
