My favorite annual fall tradition is most definitely - apple picking!!! Growing up we used to go to a magical place called Apple Hill in California. Now that I live in the Midwest, there is no shortage of orchards for us to visit around here!
So it begins - finding creative ways to eat apples for the next six weeks. Obviously there is our annual tradition of making a homemade apple pie, not to mention we go through quite a few whole apples with lunches and snacks. But there are SO many other awesome ways to eat them!
Salads - dice them up and toss with some craisins and walnuts with poppy seed dressing - or chop with cashews and swiss cheese. Layer them on a flatbread pizza with arugula or spinach, goat cheese, and bacon, drizzled with honey and crushed pecans. Dice them and use them in pancakes, muffins, breads... Chop them up and wrap them in crescent rolls with cheese crumbles and bacon for a delicious gooey appetizer. You can even slice some brie to top your apple slice, adding honey and chopped pecans or walnuts (this is so good baked in the oven for 5-7 minutes!) - or use for dipping in pumpkin fluff (1 can pumpkin, 1 tub cool whip, 1 package pumpkin spice pudding).
There are so many options, right? And I'll even have some more ideas for you next week once I feature the recipes from my fall tasting party!!
So get out there and get picking!!! :)
