Now on the surface, that probably sounds dumb, like we're leaning about safety (not that safety is dumb of course, but who wants to learn about it on a holiday weekend?!) Instead, the name came from something far stupider - the idea is that by "celebrating" the holiday a day early (translation = drinking too much) then it will keep you "safe" on July 4th because you'll be too hungover to drink too much while you're lighting off dangerous fireworks. Makes sense now, right? :)
Our tradition every year, following an awesome S'mores fire pit, is to light sparklers and lanterns - the kids absolutely LOVE doing this every year!
