Let me tell you, my kiddos can barely make it to Target and back without "someone touching them" and without wanting to play with the single only "toy" I have in the car (an ice scraper no less, not even a toy!) - and sadly that's only a 20 minute drive round trip. So naturally a road trip far away sounds daunting, right?? But here's the kicker - if you plan ahead, you just may survive the ENTIRE trip - without one single annoyance from your children.
GASP - you think it's not possible, right? After all, it's like a kid's dream to annoy their parents in the car... Well I am living proof that it's true - you can survive a long road trip without the drama.
So what is in these magic books you ask? A whole lot of fun! (And some learning - which to little kids, can still be fun! :) The best part - other than the cost of your copy paper, you can make these FREE off printables from the internet (thank you Google!)
I also include a coloring section (you can also print out FREE coloring sheets in any theme you could ever imagine from Google) and a "blank" section for drawing and writing (with both blank and lined paper). The front of the book has a zipper pouch with sharpened pencils and crayons. That's all you need!
Now here's an important tip - make sure you ALSO plan for the way back! I always keep this box in the car for our trip home - it's full of new snacks they didn't have on the way there (that in itself is very exciting) as well as NEW sheets to fill up their books for the ride home!!
So if you have a road trip planned for this summer, I strongly urge you to consider making some road trip books - they are super easy, you can customize them for any age, and they will keep your kiddos busy for hours! A couple other pointers - keep the snack factory fun. I like snacks that take awhile to eat (you have plenty of hours to kill, trust me!) so baggies of cereal are good, along with other small hand snacks like goldfish, etc. Somehow mindlessly putting food in their face will help their moods (come to think of it, that works for me as an adult too... :)
Happy road tripping!!! :)
