In addition to being a talented author, there is so much more to L.G. (she also has some amazing graphics talent)! She's given me the privilege of an author interview, which I've posted below. In honor of her book, Shelter My Heart (being released the same day as mine, May 16th) check this out:
Let's learn more about this fabulous author:
1) How long have you been writing?
Funny, I'm not one of those writers who dreamed of being an author since I could pick up a pen. This is all recent for me, since 2010 when I started writing my first novel. Prior to that, I hadn't written anything but term papers in college -- and that was under duress! My first book was published in April, 2014.
2) Where do you typically get most of your writing done (at a desk in an office, outside in nature, etc)?
I have a writing office at home in one of my guest rooms. My house is nice and sunny, so I mix it up between there, my kitchen, living room, and the family room - all places with a lot of light. Usually, somewhere where my dog can cuddle up next to me. She's needy that way.
3) What was your inspiration behind Shelter My Heart?
Shelter My Heart is the second book in a series of three main novels with accompanying novelettes. The series involves three women from the same family: romance writer, Jillian Grant, her niece, Jenny Lynch, and Jillian's sister (and Jenny's mom), Kitty McNally. They come from a family plagued by loss, and each woman must confront her past to find a second chance at love. This book is Jenny's. The inspiration for Jillian's book, Caught Up in Raine, came from an actual event where I spotted a hot landscaper who looked like a character in my other series. I almost stopped my car to ask him to be my cover model. I didn't, but the question stuck in my mind, and became the opening scene for the first book - Jillian stopped the car and asked Raine to be her cover model. After that, my agent and I decided to pitch it as series, so Shelter My Heart was born! The plot intersects with one of the Caught Up in Raine novelettes.
4) Where do your ideas typically come from for your books?
Great question! Other than Caught Up in Raine, I'm not sure I know!
5) If you were to cast your two main characters from Shelter My Heart in a movie, which actors would you choose for the roles?
Hmm...The actors - Devon, Alex Pettyfer; Jenny - Emilia Clark (You Before Me). I think they'd be awesome!
6) What other project(s) are you currently working on?
I'm working on the last book in the series, Surrender My Heart, with Jenny's mom. I love this story, because it follows two parallel love stories of Jenny's mom, Kitty, and Detective John Henshaw, in the present and back when they were in high school. John's been a character in the series, and it's apparent they still holds a flame for each other even though Kitty is married to someone else. They finally get another chance, if John can forgive her once he learns the truth. I'm also working on the forth book in my epic urban fantasy / paranormal romance series about twelve souls who have been chosen to lead the final battle between angels & demons. Fun stuff!
7) What is the #1 piece of advice you would give to an aspiring writer?
Build a network of trusted author friends and support each other through thick and thin. They will be your saving grace. Check your ego at the door. Your first novel is worse than think it is, so develop a thick skin. Recognize and embrace constructive criticism, rewriting, and editing as the gifts they are...
Happy reading!!! :)
