Somehow my kids lose 7 bookmarks a piece for every book they read - seriously. It's like the missing sock from the dryer that just disappears into the abyss, never to be seen again. So, as one of my holiday crafts to make for people (okay, to give away with my books to "dress" them up a bit!) I started making these adorable bookmark bands! I saw a tutorial on Pinterest where they were giving instructions on how to sew these together - um, no, who has time for that?! So instead I found some elastic headbands from the $1 store and purchased some cute embellishments from Hobby Lobby and Michaels. They are the perfect size to wrap around a traditional-sized paperback. One glue gun and 30 seconds later, I already had a nice collection going: I am going to be selling some at a book fair with my books, so I did glue a little felt patch on the back just to make them a little nicer, but I don't think that's necessary if you're making these for yourself. I also made some cute "kid" ones - cats, cupcakes, etc: Another bookmark project you can work on with your kiddos would be paint sample bookmarks! How cute are these: These are just paint sample strips we don't need anymore, embellished with some stickers and ribbon! I put a piece of scrapbook paper on the back just to cover up the barcodes (especially for the ones I give to other people, lol, but the kiddos probably won't care if the backs have paint sample notes on them... :) The kids LOVE these, and we can personalize them (cats for the girl, sports stuff for the boy, etc) and they can keep a stack of them by their bed - super cute and fun, and cheaper than real bookmarks! :)

AuthorI love writing romance novels, editing other people's novels, planning parties (heavy on the theme food!) and watching movies. Cooking has also become a passion of mine (because you can't have a proper party without food!) and I love finding new hobbies when I can squeeze them in. Archives
